vcfo has partnered with a very well-funded and successful Denver based Real Estate Investment Firm to hire a Chief Financial Officer.  The successful candidate will be a pivotal executive member in this high growth organization.  Not only will this person direct the accounting, finance, tax, and investor reporting functions of the company, but the CFO will be responsible for driving the company forward through rapid vertical and horizontal growth strategies.  Culturally, candidates must have an entrepreneurial vision, high energy, and bootstraps they can pull up as needed!  Our client has a very unique business model that consistently delivers on the extreme demand pressures of single-family residential property.  We are excited to share more details with qualified candidates!

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance, Accounting, Tax, and Investor Relations functions of the organization
  • Provides strategic leadership and counsel in the development of short and long-term strategic financial objectives
  • Advises the CEO and other leadership of the company on all financial matters; provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities
  • Maintains excellent relationships with existing investors and continually seeks out new investors that will enhance the financial performance of the company
  • Establishes financial strategic plans and benchmarks to achieve company objectives
  • Creates and maintains excellent relationships with auditors, tax advisors, finance committees and regulators
  • Oversees the budgeting process to ensure the integrity, preparation and timely completion of the reports and information
  • Ensures that timely and accurate management reports, budgets and analysis of financial performance are provided to the CEO and other leadership of the company
  • Develops and utilizes forward-looking, predictive models (dashboards) and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organizations cash management needs, operations and business plans
  • Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Optimizes the handling of banking relationships and initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions
  • Promotes teamwork, sustains an aligned and energized staff, promotes communication, provides team directions, and leads regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Motivates and values staff toward performance excellence, professional development, and participation in important meetings and committees

Skills, Qualifications, Knowledge Requirements:

Experience/Education:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant financial experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
  • Excellent track record working with private investors, private equity and family offices
  • Currently a CFO or a principal financial officer, real estate investment company experience required
  • Knowledge of land investment preferred; other real estate asset classes accepted
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries, and to negotiate and interface with a diverse population
  • Knowledge of U.S. tax code and compliance procedures
  • Working knowledge of information technology
  • BA or BS in Finance or Accounting preferred; Big Four experience a plus
  • MBA, CFA or CPA a plus
